The "Rosse Observatory" control room has improved somewhat from a few weeks back. Once the broadband connection is hooked up, we'll be able to operate the equipment remotely from Dublin.
Callisto measures radio emission from solar flares and coronal mass ejections in the range 45-870 MHz. We have been testing the system in Trinity College Dublin, before its move to a radio-quiet site in Birr Castle. There it will be used to study the effects of solar radio bursts on wireless communications, GPS and electrical power distribution. See www.rosseobservatory.ie for details and real time data.
